HBO's Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon has finally arrived, welcoming fantasy fans to Westeros nearly two centuries before Daenerys Targaryen was born. Dany's Targaryen ancestors are at the height of their power and influence, with the only threat coming from the heir issue. Cooke's breakthrough performance came in Psycho prequel Bates Motel, where she played a childhood friend of the troubled Norman Bates. She later bagged film roles in horror films The Quiet Ones, Ouija and The Limehouse Golem, as well as Steven Spielberg blockbuster Ready Player One and Riz Ahmed's awards contender The Sound of Metal. She currently plays Sid Baker on Apple TV+ spy thriller Slow Horses. While there are other Westeros-related series in development, “House of the Dragon” is the only confirmed “Game of Thrones” spinoff show (so far).

He has worked with House of the Dragon co-star Matt Smith before on a 2006 series called The Street. Meanwhile, Harry Collett has joined the cast as Jacaerys Velaryon, the eldest son of Rhaenyra Targaryen. Bethany Antonia is playing Baela Targaryen, the eldest daughter of Laena Velaryon and rider of the young dragon Moondancer, while Phoebe Campbell is portraying Rhaena Targaryen, the second daughter of Lady Laena and sister to Baela. Tom Glynn-Carney fills out the cast as Aegon Targaryen, the first-born son of King Viserys, together with Ewan Mitchell as Aemond Targaryen, the second-born son of Viserys, nephew to Daemon, and half-brother to Rhaenyra. Phia Saban is also in the mix as Helaena Targaryen, the second-born daughter of Viserys, sister to Aegon and Aemond, and half-sister to Rhaenyra. Emily Carey is set to star opposite Alcock in a recurring role as Alicent Hightower, per THR.
The opening chapter of the series successfully reimagined Westeros, as it would’ve existed under the Targaryens. Season two is set to build upon the narrative of its successor, which ended on a massive cliffhanger. The two Targaryen siblings, namely Rhaenyra and Aegon, were seemingly on the cusp of war until one of Rhaenyra’s sons was brutally murdered by Aegon’s brother. The second season will depict the aftermath of this event and will majorly highlight Rhaenyra’s response to the loss of her offspring. Frankel has appeared in a number of things on TV, including the TV series The Serpent, and the TV film, NYPD Blue, but his role in House of the Dragon will be one of his biggest roles yet. Olivia Cooke plays Alicent Hightower in House of the Dragon, and she’s appeared in plenty of movies and TV shows prior to her role in the HBO series.
Mysaria is a slave from Essos who became a prostitute in Westeros. She has a special romantic relationship with Daemon, enough that he brings her with him as he flees King's Landing at the end of episode 1. When we meet her again in episode 9, she's built a seat of power among the common folk. Like Thrones, HotD is brimming with talented actors, from industry veterans, to newcomers, to a former Prince Philip. Read on for our guide, welcoming the show's sprawling cast.

Frankel is relatively new to the business, as his only film credit thus far has been in the holiday movie, Last Christmas (which, funnily enough, starred Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys in Game of Thrones). With such a large ensemble - and I mean this list is huge - I’m sure that somehow, someway, you have seen the House of the Dragon cast before. For those who are wondering why these people look so familiar, here are some of their biggest shows and movies before joining the world of Westeros. House of the Dragon Season 2 is expected in early summer of 2024. Season 1 is streaming now on Max along with all eight seasons of Game of Thrones.
He tried to flee King's Landing before he was crowned the new King by Otto and Alicent. He's Dornish, a common-born man who is the son of the current steward to the Lord of Blackhaven. He makes up for his lack of any claim to land or titles with his impressive swordplay and his own personal honor.
Since handing the keys to the TARDIS over, he's had roles in The Crown, Last Night in Soho and Morbius. By the end of season one, though, Daemon and Rhaenyra are wed, and he's become a fierce supporter of Rhaenyra's claim to the Iron Throne. He's sure to use his skills as a capable (but sometimes cruel) fighter to good effect in the Dance of the Dragons.
And while a sequel series is actually in the works right now, the prequel, House of the Dragon, is coming out soon, featuring several never-before-seen key Targaryen figures. Tom Taylor takes on the highly anticipated role of Cregan Stark, the Lord of Winterfell at the time of this series. Taylor is best known for playing Jake Chambers in the 2017 adaptation of Stephen King's Dark Tower, alongside Idris Elba as the Gunslinger. Now 22 years old, Taylor has several other credits to his name and he is stepping into a much more mature role. English actor Kieran Bew is a recent Max star thanks to Warrior, so he should be right at home on this HBO fantasy. Bew is best known for playing Bill O'Hara on Warrior – a martial arts drama based on a treatment originally written by Bruce Lee.
